It’s the final Merdeka League Tournament of the season this week. Lagenda Hookahs are playing at the Royal Selangor Polo Club’s Merdeka League Final. We have a 4 game schedule, facing Kiara Polo, La Boheme, La Pampa and 1 Pahang.

The Lagenda Hookahs were beaten for the first time this season, going down 6 - 5 to La Pampa. The Hookahs had our chances, the usually reliable Peter Abisheganaden blowing two penalties to the right of the posts. A sixty-yarder with 5 seconds to go also went ride right. It meant that the Hookahs fell to their first defeat of the season, and dropped them to second place in the Royal Pahang Merdeka League Tournament.
Nearest league rivals La Pampa finished in 3rd place in the tournament. It means that although Lagenda Hookahs did not win, they extended their lead at the top of the Merdeka League standings to 3 points. Read the rest of this entry »
We may be cool performers, but this is getting on our nerves. Another half-goal win, this time hanging on for dear life in the final minutes before winning 7 1/2 - 7.
This was a reverse of our modus operandi - we shot out to a good lead, 5 1/2 - 2 in the second chukka, before allowing Kiara Polo to claw their way back into the game.
By the time we went into the final chukka it was 5 1/2 - 6. It took two goals to settle our nerves, but the Kiara boys, playing with three pros, refused to give in. They scored a late goal to turn the final minute and a half into a cliff-hanger. Read the rest of this entry »
It’s our modus operandi - we come from behind. Against 1 Pahang in the first match of the Royal Pahang Merdeka League Tournament, Lagenda Hookahs has to come back with two goal in the last chukka to win 4 1/2 - 4.
It took a goal by Dato’ David Morais and a 40 yard penalty by Peter Abisheganaden with a minute to play, to get Lagenda Hookahs back in front. 1 Pahang’s star Amran Selamat fouled Jennifer Too to give away the penalty, which Peter put away with an unstoppable shot. The Ibil Hookahs finally swung into action at the Royal Pahang National League Tournament at the Royal Pahang Polo Club. Mohd Zekri Ibrahim, Peter Abisheganaden, and Edham Shaharuddin were joined by Hairizal Yahya who was stepping in for Dato’ David Morais who could not make the first match of the tournament, against Head Hunters.
The Ibil Hookahs got off to a good start, leading 4 - 2 by half-time. It was 6 - 4 going into the last chukka but Head Hunters pulled it back to 6 all. It took a goal in the last 35 seconds of the game to seal a 7 - 6 win for the Hookahs. Read the rest of this entry »
The Lagenda Hookahs stormed to victory over La Pampa in the Bukit Kiara Merdeka League Tournament, leading from start to finish of an exciting final held on Saturday 19th March. Slow starters in their first three matches, Lagenda Hookahs came out flying in the final with two quick goals in the first chukka by eventual MVP Julian Sagarna. They led a stunned La Pampa 4 1/2 - 1 at half time and cruised home 6 1/2 - 4 winners.
It was a great result for the “legendary hookahs” as La Pampa was the heavy favourite to win the match.
“The kids were the inspiration for our win in this tournament,” said team captain Peter Abisheganaden. “We wanted to win it for them. ”
“In the last chukka of the final I had a 60 yarder and I knew if I scored, it would break La Pampa’s belief. I told myself I had to do it for the kids. They were my inspiration every time we needed to come back and in every crucial situation. I’m glad we didn’t let them down.” Read the rest of this entry »
We squeaked into the final of the Bukit Kiara Merdeka League by the barest of margins. Having defeated La Boheme 6 - 5 in our first match and Danga Bay 2 by 6 - 3 in our second match, we had to play 1 Pahang for a place in the final. Once again we started slow and fell behind in but came back to draw 2 - 2 in what was the lowest scoring match of the tournament as both teams canceled each other out.
The draw was enough for us to make it as one of the only two unbeaten teams to make it to the final. Tomorrow we play La Boheme for the cup. Read the rest of this entry »
Never count out the Lagenda Hookahs. On Thursday against La Boheme, we had to come back from 4-1 and 5-3 down in the last chukka to win 6-5. Yesterday we did it hard in the first chukka against Danga Bay 2. Down 2-o in the first chukka, they had us under real pressure. The tide turned in the second chukka as our pro Julian Sagarna got two quick goals to level the score. We took the lead in the third chukker and never looked back. Goals from Peter Abisheganaden (3 goals) and Jennifer Too (1 goal) sealed a 6 - 3 win.
The win was made more exciting by the visit by some of the kids from Nur Salam, the charity home that we support. Read the rest of this entry »
