Polo has been dropped from the line-up of sports to be played at the Jakarta SEA Games XXVI this year. The Indonesian Polo Association issued a statement today clarifying that the Executive Committee of the SEA Games XXVI declined the entry. The decision is final.
The news comes as big blow to South East Asian polo. It was hoped that polo would once again be a medal sport in the SEA Games. Polo was played at the 1983 SEA Games in Singapore and 2007 SEA Games in Bangkok, Thailand.
The statement by the Indonesian Polo Association is copied below:
After a long process and trying our hardest to keep Polo as a competing event in Sea Games XXVI which will be held in Indonesia later this year.
With much regret and disappointment, we have to inform you, Polo was declined an entry by Executive Committee of Sea Games XXVI to be included as a competing event.
The decision of the EXCO is final, and therefore we do not have any further opportunity to appeal for another decision.
We would like to sincerely thank you for all of your support and effort in helping Indonesian Polo Association in promoting Polo as an event in Sea Games.
We will continue our effort for promoting Polo events and development of the sport in Indonesia.
With all of the preparation that is already in place, we are re-directing all of the preparation to host you in Indonesian Open which is plan to be held towards the end of this year.
Once again our deepest and most sincere apology for the disappointing news.
We will keep you posted for the dates and preparations of The Indonesian Polo Open and Looking forward to see you soon at the next Polo events.
