The Star: Horse riding gaining popularity

More and more Malaysians are discovering the spiritual and physical thrill of horse riding.

Sunlight streams through the fronds and there’s silence all around. Upon the signal from our riding instructor, Sopyan Gelar Mulyana, 27, we nudge the horses into a canter.

The thunder of hooves startles a snake that slithers back into the undergrowth. A surprised herd of wild buffaloes watches us pass. The horses race with each other until they tire themselves out near a bridge.

The majestic beasts are a regular sight, so the estate workers fishing and relaxing here greet us with a smile.

The outrides by Elmina Equestrian Centre (EEC) in Saujana Utama, Sungai Buloh last two hours. Sime Darby has allowed the stable to enter their property, which stretches for miles.
